Jacob Medlin is a horn maker known for his organic design style which focuses on clean and easy playing experiences and a preference for natural curves and tapers. Keith Durand is a world class engineer and machinist with a habit of pulling off the impossible. Together, we’ve brough you a fresh mouthpiece design based on our best ideas from over 30 combined years of experience designing and building horns and horn accessories.

We produce a series of unified models driven from a single, adaptive, master design file. This lets us offer a variety of cup volumes to address different balances that players may need based on the quality and design of their horn and their unique physical attributes. The design adapts in real time to preserve the organic curves that define the overall shape of the mouthpiece bowl and backbore while giving us control over a few intentionally chosen elements that we use to create the variety in our lineup.
The design and the execution of our mouthpieces was considered simultaneously to take full advantage of Keith’s mastery of machining. Our lead free brass alloy is left raw rather than being buffed and plated; two things which destroy dimensional precision. As a result, Alpine Mouthpieces have unprecedented consistency across production runs.
Tempered material strikes the right balance of strength and elasticity to allow the maximum amount of energy transfer between your lips and the wall of the mouthpiece. An extremely precise cut on the shank taper maximizes the contact between the wall of the mouthpiece and the wall of the lead pipe inlet which allows more energy to pass into the walls of the leadpipe. Players notice more volume with less effort and clearer and more efficient technical elements, especially articulations.
We’ve finally reached our goal of an amazing, generalist mouthpiece which is enjoyable to play, with options for variety, but not too many to be overwhelming, made by horn playing and building experts and we’re excited to share our efforts with you!
